Do People Really Want Mega Man in Smash Bros.?

When can we Expect the Next Smash Bros.?

Satoru Iwata announced at E3 2011 that Nintendo was planning to develop a Smash Bros. for both the 3DS and the Wii U. Masahiro Sakurai followed up this announcement with a confirmation, stating work would not begin until development on Kid Icarus was finished. Kid Icarus was finally completed and released in March, 2012. A game like Smash Bros. typically takes about 2-4 years to develop at the very least. Needless to say, the next Smash Bros. release is still a ways off.

What are Mega Man’s Chances of Getting into Smash Bros.?

No one knows for sure, but it seems highly likely if we show our support! Keiji Inafune stated years ago that Mega Man did not make it into Brawl due to a lack of communication between Capcom and Nintendo. In March, 2011, Street Fighter producer Yoshinori Ono expressed how he would like to see Mega Man most of all appear in a Smash Bros. game. Then, after the announcement of new Smash Bros. incoming after E3 2011, Masahiro Sakurai specifically name dropped Capcom when mentioning the possibility of outside company guest characters. There’s unbridled excitement for Mega Man’s appearance at many websites, and you can even upvote the already popularity request over at the Capcom-Unity Suggestion Box.

While Capcom owns the Mega Man franchise, Nintendo is in control of who they put into Smash Bros. As a result, our efforts should first and foremost be focused on proving to Nintendo how much we want Mega Man in the game.

What? – there is a site for having Megaman in the new Super Smash Bros. Oh you… Maybe this is a bad idea now due to lack of people but eventually you should have a poll to see which Megaman version do people want in the new Smash Bros.

  2. New polls start on Saturdays, so after this one runs its course I’ll definitely put that up as the next one! It will be interesting to see what version people want most.

Not sure if we can say Mega Man’s chances are high especially after his cancellation and no UMvC3 appearance.

Still, he is the most likely third-party character not playable yet and deserves to be in.
