Smash Saturday #5: Left Out
This week, Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 was announced, bringing with it feelings of excitement and disappointment. Exciting, because of guys like Strider, Phoenix Wright, and Hawkeye. Disappointing, because it lacked some very obviously popular characters fans have been begging for, guys like Cyclops, Venom, and of course, Mega Man.
Mega Man used to be a prominent part of Capcom, their official mascot even. In 2009, that fact was outright denied by Seth Killian of Capcom, a statement made at a time where Mega Man had been shifted to portable and downloadable games only. Clearly, times have changed, and it looks like it’s getting harder and harder for the blue bomber to fit in to Capcom’s hectic game line-up.
However, this is not a time to weep for Mega Man’s death. Via the “unofficial poll” for MvC3 and all the latest news surrounding Mega Man Legend’s 3 cancellation, it seems very clear, to me at least, a huge amount of people still care about Mega Man. Capcom may not give him a chance, but there’s no reason for Nintendo to overlook him!
By supporting Mega Man in any way you can, and as vocally as you can, you’re sending a message to the world that people still love Mega Man. There was a huge gap in time between Kid Icarus on gameboy and Smash Bros. Brawl where fans were left wondering where Pit was, and he finally made his triumphant debut. If he can make such a return, so can Mega Man!
So, keep doing what you’re doing Mega fans! Make more art, more music, more games, more anything! If you really want to see Mega Man again, you can make it happen.
