Mega Man for Smash Bros.

Mission Complete!

Kid Icarus Release Date and Wii U’s Possible Launch

Wii U

It’s been a couple of months since we last checked in on the status of the new Smash Bros. Some new information has come out regarding release dates since then, which in turn should give us a better idea of when we can expect seeing the first screens of the new Smash Bros., and when it might come out.

First off, Kid Icarus: Uprising’s release date was announced to be March 23, 2012. As you may already know, the game is being developed by Project Sora, who is also scheduled to be developing the new Smash Bros. games for 3DS and Wii U. Masahiro Sakurai, the lead developer of the studio, has specifically stated in the past that work on the new Smash Bros. would not begin until Kid Icarus: Uprising was finished. So, come March, I think it will be safe to say development on the new Smash Bros. will finally be underway.

However, Smash Bros. for Wii U will not have a home until the system itself is released! Nintendo revealed recently that the Wii U’s launch will be sometime after E3 and before the end of 2012, with some fans speculating a November release.

Ultimately, this means that the earliest chance for a first peek as Smash Bros. is going to be E3 of 2012. And, it is very unlikely to be a launch title for the Wii U. Smash Bros. is going to take some time, and we probably will not have the full game until 2013 or 2014. Rest assured though, sneak peeks and development coverage will probably go on all throughout the first major unveiling right up till launch.

    The suspense is killing me.

    I can’t wait.

I would not expect the full game until late 2014. Sakurai is developing two versions and he’s not going to want to make major corners to get the game out soon. Possibly not until 2015.

That said, Mega Man on SSB4: I fully expect support for him to rise a ton once an E3 trailer is shown (or perhaps it never happens if Mega Man is confirmed at said trailer). Not exactly Sonic level, but expect him to be in the Top 5 easily.
