Sakurai Says Connectivity is the Key
“As you noted, there is a certain dead end we come to if we just expand the volume of the game. I intend to change direction a little as we go. The key to that’s going to be its dual support for 3DS/Wii U. I’m really just getting started on this so it’s going to take time, but I’ll come up with something that uses that link as the game’s central axis, so I hope you’re looking forward to it.” – Masahiro Sakurai
This is some very interesting first news. Some were left wondering when the game was announced for both systems whether or not it would just be a port job, or two radically different games. Linking could have all kinds of possibilities, like training characters on 3DS and sending them up to the Wii U, or even having it so you can fight one another across systems!
I have already seen a few disappointed at the fact this will detract from other features, and how the “volume” content can be taken to mean the game won’t be that much bigger or better than Brawl. It sounds like good news to me though, as new kinds of features are more welcome than worrying about keeping all the old ones.
